Move Process

The vast majority of time associated with a Move Event is spent ensuring the applications are prepared, which includes bringing the applications up to industry technology/security standards and optimizing where possible, as well as testing the application in the new environment on the updated architecture (learn more about what’s involved in a move event).

The Move Event process involves around 60 people and over 4,000 hours of work across various ITS teams.

As far as infrastructure, a total of 190 servers and 141 databases were modified in support of these events.

Part of the success of a Move Event relies on the teams accounting for all other organization project changes, campus operations and events, and potential impact on customers. The ITS teams must also ensure sufficient coverage and strategic scheduling to allow for additional support the following week in the event any unforeseen challenges occur as a result of the move.

What’s Next?

Like all units on campus, ITS faces difficult decisions in the wake of substantial budget reductions. ITS is in the process of reevaluating its scope of service offerings and project timelines, including Project Genesis, based on new resource limitations. As a result, Genesis move events are currently expected to extend into spring 2022.
